And I’ve got a show to play tonight. Oh well, in the immortal tradition, the show must go on. I don’t even feel like looking at a trumpet right now. Gonna go take a nap.
If I wake up speaking Chinese, call the CDC.

I’m sick at work, and have been revising drawings to match up to a new Standard Operating Procedure that was written up by someone who doesn’t know how the drawings are actually done, and desperately trying to fix the SOP at the same time.
And chopping out pieces of those drawings and reassembling them into something else, in a fight with Adobe Acrobat.
Whee.

if only the human sinus system had a trumpet-like spit valve for easy drainage

That would be awesome. I do remember, though, when one of my twins was very young and had a nasty sinus infection. They put a vacuum hose up his nose. It was impressive how much they got out. Might have been a bit of brain too.....

Good luck. We’re all counting on you.

I’m always astounded how much snot I can produce when I have a sinus infection. Thankfully, it’s been a while. [knocks wood]

CDC? Sorry boss, we’re calling in an air strike ;)
Feel better!

I missed almost 2 weeks of work when I got sick. Sinus infection. Strep throat. Bronchitis. And the flu all at once.

Don’t fuck it up or someone might lose their job!
Come to think of it, it’d probably be your boss who always takes credit for your work...maybe you should screw the pooch on that SOP.

Me too! Fortunately mine has thus far produced lots of whining with minimal misery. I did just have a nap though.

I read Adobe Acrobat and wretched. It had nothing to do with a virus. Good luck.

Oh the bright side, your horn will become a WMD, and the entire ensemble will come down sick next week. Happy trails.

Like any good trumpet player, hop yourself up on pharmaceuticals before the show. :)

I think the only solution here is amputation at the neck. Only guaranteed cure as far as I know.

I had strep followed by the stomach bug to start off the new year, glad i wasnt the only one!

We need you to measure how much next time you get a chance... either in liters or milliliters.

I have the possibly unenviable job security of being the only one here willing and able to do some of this stuff. I may also have already been playing “miss me with that shit” with a couple of the requirements of the SOP because they were unenforceable and insane, waiting for things to come to a head.
As written, there was not an explicit clause for grandfathered documents. Which means by one reading, we would have to have taken up several thousand drawings, *copied them whole into new format shells*, and reissued them one at a time.
That is one of several dumb things I am attempting to get corrected. I may also try to alter the template clause which I am currently cheating by copying over the template’s title block, because the output is identical in every way.
I had the responsibility of reviewing the SOP when it was circulated, but the first draft had serious structural and classification of drawing issues that had to be fixed first, and the second pass - I was wildly busy on something else and the other drafter missed some of this stuff on how it was Almost English written very close to what we need, but was actually written in Space Man with bad ideas and bad implications throughout.
I wrote up proposed revisions and had nearly a change needed in every paragraph.
As further and as previously said, WHEEEE

Did you know that even if you set Acrobat to 100% resolution, that the output resolution of the Snapshot Tool is nearly random, unless you set it by hand to a fixed output? Guess who found that setting today, after several months in which it would have been useful? Guess who was really annoyed by this, because 100% used to work, but then his Acrobat bricked itself, necessitating an update?
Hint:

Thanks. But you have a great idea there.

Mine always seem to be upper respiratory infections. Which is really fun when you’re trying to play trumpet.

I blame the third trumpet, who sits right next to me. He was sick earlier this week.

Nothing different there.

Seems a bit drastic. I usually opt for massive amounts of alcohol. It won’t do much for the virus, but I won’t care how I feel.

gin - an older gentleman from the Philippines I work with swears by gin. He’s 70 and in much better than average health so he might be on to something...

I’m shocked, shocked I tell you.
Acrobat has lots of those little gems. I seem to find one every time I do a project.

Sounds absolutely horrid.
Random question, can you do the circular breathing thing (when you aren’t stuffy and sick, anyway)? Always fascinated me.
![]() 01/24/2020 at 01:55 |

Not sure what that means. There was an Olney Road where I grew up as a kid.
How’d it go with your doctor?
![]() 01/24/2020 at 01:57 |

No, I never learned. For trumpet players, it’s sort of a gimmick. It’s more of a thing with low brass players who have to hold out long notes. They expend their air faster.

Olney was a country singer died on stage a couple days ago
Doc went okay gave me sleeping pills...I think I could have used something stronger as I still only got about 4 hours
But that’s an improvement and maybe they work better after a few days

I feel for you. I’m still fighting the leftover cough and drainage from having Influenza 3 weeks ago.

Now is your blood pressure? Lack of sleep (and smoking, and eating poorly, and drinking too much) can really make it skyrocket.

wich is amazing all things considered
but i’m due for a proper check up soon enough so then we’ll see properly how ok i really am..or amt lol
